On Sunday 20,000 runners will take part on the 36th Athens Authentic Marathon.  Amongst them will be LKR Events Director, Lucas Meagor, who joins Nick Butter, who will be running his 196th marathon in his 196th country for Prostate Cancer UK.

Lucas, who is the Race Director for the Hull Marathon, Humber Bridge Half Marathon and Dave MacDonald Haltemprice 10K, joined Nick in Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan in April for two of his 196 marathons around the world.  Nick is aiming to become the first person to run a marathon in very nation of the world (196 by the qualifying criteria used) and on Sunday is due to run his 196th country when he takes part in the Athens Authentic Marathon – which follows the original route from the town of Marathon to the Panathenaic Stadium (where the first modern Olympics took place in 1896). LKR Events sponsored the Azerbaijan Marathon.

Lucas adds “I met Nick in January at the National Running Show and his story struck me straight away as an adventure I’d love.”  Lucas, of East Hull, works for local charities Sight Support and R-evolution in between managing LKR Events. “I’ve been following him since and very excited to be joining him for the final leg of an amazing journey”.  Lucas added.

Lucas joins Nick in Athens on Sunday for this final adventure, along with a friend, Chris Rollinson.  This will be Lucas’ second time on the route (and his 52nd official marathon), after running the course in 2015.  Being a self confessed marathon and Olympic geek it ticks all the boxes.  Chris, who lives in Rotherham, ran this year’s Hull Marathon in September and will be lining up for his 3rd marathon in a city full of history.   But more importantly, but will be supporting Nick as he aims to reach his target of £250,000 for Prostate Cancer UK. Nick still has 1 marathons to run before then, in Israel and in the last two weeks has managed to pull off running in war torn Yemen and Syria. (see his Instagram for the stories)

It promises to be an amazing experience.  Lucas has been grateful to the many who have supported his fundraising in the past and is therefore asking everyone to support Nick in completing this amazing journey.  More details about his trip can be found at https://www.runningtheworld196.com/.  (All his journey has been carbon offset for those asking the very valid question about the carbon footprint.) Please follow his social media channels to keep up to date or like lucaskeepsrunning on Facebook where there will posts over the weekend.
