British Olympian to race in 2020

In what will be the sixth year of the event, Team GB’s Tom Bosworth will be amongst those lining up to start the race on the Humber Bridge on 27 September. Tom is Britain’s most successful race walker and might not seem the obvious name to have present.  However, Tom will be aiming to race walk the entire marathon distance in Hull, which will be his longest race walk.   After a break through Olympic performance setting a new British 20km record and finishing 6th Place, Tom has gone on to win a Silver medal whilst Captaining the England Team at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, and finishing top 8 again at 2019 World and 2018 European Championships. “After Tokyo, it will be great to try out something different”.  Tom commented, adding “I’ve never race walked as far as a marathon so it’ll be great to take part in Hull”.   Tom is set to compete in the Tokyo Olympics next summer, less than two months before he will join those lining the streets for the marathon.

Bonus Arena & Hull Marathon partnership announced

The Bonus Arena, Hull’s premier 3,500 capacity music & events venue, has partnered with the Hull Marathon to host the Hull Marathon, Health & Fitness Show on Saturday 26 September.

The event will demonstrate a wide variety of health and fitness clubs and build on the passion of sport across the region. It will allow visitors the chance to learn about and even try their hand at new sports, learn about nutrition, pick up new sportswear and equipment and include registration for the marathon & relays.  Among the guests present will be Team GB’s Tom Bosworth, who will take part in the marathon the following day. Tom become Team GB’s first openly Gay Track and field athlete after publicly coming out on Breakfast TV back in 2015 and will be fresh from competing in the 20km Race walk in the Tokyo Olympics.

Running from 10am to 5pm, a timetable of events and further exhibitors will be announced soon. Laura Harrison of the Bonus Arena said: “We are delighted to partner with Hull Marathon for our second sports and fitness event. We issued almost 1,000 tickets to the event this year and we are sure the 2020 show will be even bigger and better.”
