CHARITY PARTNERS 2020 announced

LKR Events, who deliver the Hull Marathon & Relays, Powered by Eon Visual Media & Brainworks, are thrilled to announce their 2020 partnership with five charities for the event on the weekend of 26/27 September.

Marathons have become synonymous with fundraising and each year an estimated £50,000 is raised for good causes by runners completing the Hull course. Alongside the many runners who use the challenge to improve their health and well being, organisers of the Hull Marathon appreciate many more will want to use the event as a means of raising funds for good causes. Race Director, Lucas Meagor, added: “Now in the sixth edition of Hull Marathon & Relays , I welcome our ongoing partnership with local charities and 2020 gives a diverse nature of causes for runners to support as they take on the challenge of the marathon, relays or the fun run. ”

The five charities with which the event will partner in 2020 are:
1. P.A.U.L for Brain Recovery
2. Dove House Hospice
3. Nurture A Child
4. Hull Animal Welfare Trust
5. Hull & East Riding Breast Friends

The selected charities gathered to launch their involvement for 2020 at the Bonus Arena, which will host the Hull Marathon Fitness & Sport Show on Saturday 26 September, where each charity will have a presence and enable runners to learn more about them. The event will also include the race registration and guest speakers include Team GB Olympian race walker, Tom Bosworth, and Running the World 196 marathon runner, Nick Butter. Both will take part in the marathon the following day. The Arena will also feature in the route with access from the new A63 footbridge.

On marathon day there will be cheering points around the route to encourage and support runners. In the build up to the event there will be further coverage to showcase their respective work and engage runners to sign up to support them. Lucas went on to add: “These partnerships open up the event to a wider audience as we show that anyone can get involved in some way. We love sharing some of the stories on social media of our charity runners with a wider audience”. Dove House Hospice
As the only hospice of its kind in Hull and East Yorkshire, Dove House Hospice cares for thousands of
adults each year that are living with a terminal illness, whether that be Cancer, Motor Neurones
Disease or may other complex and incurable illnesses. Whilst understanding that their illness is no
longer curable, they focus on a patient’s quality of life and aim to enrich the positives such as their
relationships with family and friends.

Dan Clipson, Regional Fundraiser at Dove House Hospice said “We are delighted to have been chosen
as a partner charity for the Hull Marathon & Relays in 2020. The event has become a key date in our
fundraising calendar and our Cheer Team of volunteers love to spur you all on across the finish line in what is often very warm weather conditions! Look out for them on the route as you pass by Dove House Hospice opposite James
Reckitt Avenue”.

Hull Animal Welfare Trust

The Hull Animal Welfare Trust are a local charity who have rescued and re-homed over 30,000 dogs,
cats and small animals over the past 37 years. They also run spay neutering and education
programmes to try to stem the tide of animal abuse and neglect at source. All of the funding to meet
their escalating costs come from donations and legacies and so they are hugely grateful for any
fundraising efforts on their behalf to enable them to help more Ill-treated and abandoned animals.
Sue Sewell, the Trust’s Chair, added “We at the Hull Animal Welfare Trust are delighted to be one of
the Charity Partners for this year’s 2020 Hull Marathon. All monies raised will go directly to the
animals in our care and we thank all involved for the opportunity to be part of this wonderful event.

HER Breast Friends
Hull & East Riding Breast Friends is the local breast cancer charity for Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire
and Northern Lincolnshire. The aim of the Charity is to create a supportive environment for those
affected by breast cancer and promoting a positive approach to living with the disease, offering
encouragement and inspiration. The services, awareness and support offered includes a Wig Bank,
Bra Service, Buddleia Complementary Therapies, Patient Gift Packs, Breast Awareness Campaign
Team and Craft Club plus much more!

Jayne Beck, Charity Manager at HER Breast friends, added “It is an honour for HER Breast Friends to
have been chosen as one of the charity partners for the Hull Marathon 2020, in this, the Charity’s
15th Anniversary year. To be part of this incredible event will help the Charity in so many ways, not
only by raising much needed funds but also increase awareness about the fantastic support the
Charity offers to anyone affected by breast cancer and other illnesses, within the local community

Nurture A Child

Nurture A Child is a charity dedicated to promoting and assisting the development of opportunities
for children and young people. Working in tandem alongside existing charities, local authorities,
sporting organisations and other partner agencies to identify, create, facilitate and deliver
opportunities that are often beyond the reach and remit of existing child support agencies and
networks. Their aim is to improve the confidence, aspirations, life chances and advancement of young people
through exposure to education, business, sports, arts, culture and science.

Nurture A Child’s spokesperson commented: “We are excited to continue our partnership so with the
event in 2020, following the success of the previous two years, we’re excited to see even more
runners fundraise this year for young people requiring a helping hand in our area.

P.A.U.L for Brain Recovery
Positivity. Awareness. Understanding. Love
P.A.U.L. for Brain Recovery is there knowing that people are often left lost, lonely, confused and vulnerable after brain injury. The injury can have devastating consequences which are life changing for everyone affected and for those reasons, there needs to be somewhere to go, a lifeline, a place to obtain comfort, support, education and
inspiration.  Working with each service user (and their family) to develop a holistic, person centred care plan that
is tailored to their unique requirements. This support involves helping people regain control of their life after brain injury by giving them a real purpose and hope for the future.

We were delighted to continue as one of the charity partners for the Hull Marathon & relays. As a
charity partner, this high-profile local event will help us raise awareness of the services that P.A.U.L
for Brain Recovery provides. As a charity that promotes an active lifestyle we are pleased to
announce that our CEO, Paul Spence, and a number of our inspirational service users will be taking
part in the event.
